What's New is Old
It's been a while since we blogged a bit and we like our posts to add value to our partner-clients. Frankly, COVID is getting all of the attention these days. While some of the folks we work with continue to forge their HIPAA programs, many have seen their organization's risk tolerance increased throughout 2020 and 2021.
Every day, we review the Lexology healthcare articles and the HealthIT headlines. Almost every single day, we read about another breach, class-action lawsuit, or both, and wonder why so many compliance professionals accept the risks associated with an immature (or non-existent) program. Here are two links from earlier this week, to remind anyone that the criminals are still at it and the lawyers are having an absolute party bringing more litigation to the healthcare industry.
We also recommend that each Privacy Officer understand HHS' HIPAA Right of Access initiative. OCR just settled their 20th complaint (for $80,000).
Stay (HIPAA) safe, Alan -
